I'm 11 years old and I can't drink Monster or Red Bull or any of that stuff. My mom says I'm "already wired enough." But I still like the IDEA of an energy drink — something cold, fizzy, with flavor that makes you feel like you're about to do something cool.
So I made my own. These are real recipes, no caffeine pills, no weird chemicals. Just real ingredients you have at home that give you actual energy (mostly from natural sugar + electrolytes + sometimes a tiny bit of caffeine from matcha or espresso).
This is my #1 favorite. Matcha gives you slow energy (way better than Red Bull crash), mango makes it actually taste good. Ice cold = like a tropical Starbucks. Full recipe →
No caffeine in this one. Ginger gives you a kick that wakes you up without making you jittery. Lemon = vitamin C. Cold + zingy. Good after sports practice. Full recipe →
Coconut water for electrolytes (way better than Gatorade because no weird coloring), pineapple, lime, and a splash of orange juice. Tastes like a beach day. Full recipe →
Sounds gross but actually tastes amazing — beet juice + apple + a tiny bit of ginger. Athletes drink beet juice before games because it makes you faster. True story, look it up. Full recipe →
Yerba mate is like a tea but with a different kind of energy — South American people drink it instead of coffee. Mix with orange + lime and ice = the cleanest energy ever. Full recipe →
Small but mighty. One little glass of this and you're awake. Honey + ginger + lemon + pinch of cayenne. Tastes like a cold and flu remedy that actually works. Full recipe →
This is my homemade Gatorade. Coconut water + lime + a tiny pinch of sea salt + honey. After running around outside this is the ONLY thing that doesn't make you feel sick. Full recipe →
This is my version of a real energy drink. Sparkling water + lemonade + a touch of green tea matcha + ice. Looks cool, tastes cool, makes you feel cool. Full recipe →
Real talk: Red Bull and Monster have like 200mg of caffeine per can. That's WAY too much for a kid (or even most adults). They also have a bunch of food dyes and stuff your body doesn't actually need. My recipes use real foods that give you energy the way nature meant — slowly and steadily.
Also they cost less. A 4-pack of Monster is like $10. I can make a glass of Mango Matcha Energy for about $1.50.
If you make one and like it, share it with a friend or come say hi. Try the Mango Matcha Energy first if you don't know where to start. It's the gateway drug.
