Healthy snacks for kids USUALLY means a bag of carrot sticks and a sad cup of hummus. This is not that list. These are snacks that are actually healthy (low-cal, lots of veggies/fruit, no junk) but also taste good enough that I want to eat them.
My mom has been on me about eating more "real food" lately. I made these to prove healthy doesn't have to be boring. Every one of these I've actually made and eaten more than once.
Just frozen grapes. Sounds dumb but they taste like tiny sorbet candies. 0 effort, 0 prep. My favorite hot-day snack. Full recipe โ
Cucumber cut into boats, filled with hummus, topped with paprika and dill. Crunchy + creamy. Makes you feel fancy. Full recipe โ
Watermelon + feta cheese + a tiny drizzle of balsamic. Sounds wrong, tastes incredible. Salty + sweet is the secret. Full recipe โ
Bell pepper halves filled with low-cal dip. The pepper IS the bowl. No carbs, big crunch. Full recipe โ
Tiny cups with a layer of hummus, then carrots/celery/cucumber sticking straight up. Looks like a flower garden. Eat one cup at a time. Full recipe โ
Fresh mango + coconut flakes on a skewer. Looks like dessert, eats like a snack. Tropical vibes. Full recipe โ
Apple slices arranged like nachos, topped with peanut butter drizzle, granola, mini chocolate chips. Healthy-ish + delicious. Full recipe โ
Banana rolled in a tortilla with peanut butter, sliced into "sushi" rolls. Looks like real sushi. Tastes like a peanut butter banana smoothie. Full recipe โ
Baked cottage cheese turned into crispy chips. Sounds weird (it is) but they're actually crispy and salty like chips. High protein, low cal. Full recipe โ
Drops of Greek yogurt mixed with berries, frozen on a tray. Like mini frozen yogurt bites. Two ingredients, perfect for hot days. Full recipe โ
Real talk: "healthy" is more than calories. I look for snacks that have:
โข Real food ingredients (fruit, veggies, cheese, yogurt, nuts) โ nothing you can't pronounce
โข Some protein OR fiber โ so you actually feel full instead of hungry again in 20 min
โข Low or no added sugar โ fruit sugar = fine, candy sugar = not
โข Actually taste good โ otherwise I'm just going to eat a pop-tart anyway
If you're a parent reading this: kids will eat healthy food if it looks cool and tastes good. The boring carrot stick approach doesn't work. Try the Watermelon Feta Bites โ they look impressive and only have like 5 ingredients.
